Annually, KCBA offers the 3-day training component required for application and certification to Title 26 Family Law Guardian ad Litem Registries. Anyone is welcome to register for this training, regardless of intent to apply for appointment to a GAL registry. Please note, however, that completion of this training course does not guarantee appointment to a registry. All application requirements, professional qualifications and background checks must be approved in addition to completion of this training prior to appointment to a registry. Completion of the training is only one component of the application process.

Please be sure to check with the registry manager in your county (usually located at the Superior Courthouse) to make sure you will likely qualify for appointment before registering for this training, if that is your intent. Only partial refunds are permitted for cancellations through 5:00pm January 28, 2008 (A $50.00 administrative fee is retained). Thereafter no refunds are permitted, but substitute attendees are most welcome.

Lastly, sign-in and sign-out is required each day and attendance is required all three days. Registration staff is required to withhold certificates of completion for any attendee that misses 15 minutes or more of the training (whether due to tardiness, cell phone usage, returning late from lunch etc.). Registration staff is specifically prohibited from making any exceptions for any reason, even emergencies. Withheld certificates will be directly forwarded to the county registry of choice. Only the Registry Manager in each county may determine the result (if any) of missed time. Please contact your County Registry Manager if you have any concerns or questions. The legal knowledge and skills of a contemporary litigation attorney include not only trial advocacy but also the art of negotiation, mediation and problem solving. What do contemporary models suggest for attorney client problem solving interaction? When and how should lawyer and client escalate conflict and yet create opportunities for resolution? How should the lawyer deal with clients’ emotions when those emotions drive the dispute or impede resolution, and what role does or should apology play in legal disputes? Can a contemporary lawyer wear two hats - one as skilled and zealous advocate and one as trained negotiator and conflict resolver?

Highly skilled and experienced attorneys and mediators will address these and other 21st Century dispute resolution questions, helping you enhance client appeal and personal satisfaction in your contemporary legal practice.
